Welcome to the new Switzerland edition of The Overlogix Sunday Times
We’re a few days late with this first Switzerland edition of TOST; travel to a working vacation in the Alps slowed publication. We hope to keep to our schedule with the next edition, scheduled for Easter Sunday, 20 April 2025.
Switzerland and USA tech operate on distinctly different wavelengths, and we found it convenient to publish, for each country, their own newsletters. Interested readers are welcome to read, subscribe and comment as desired; subscriptions are always free, and will never be used for advertising purposes.
Sources and new landing page
As of last Sunday’s edition, (23 March 2025), we concentrated our listing of news sources at our special edition: The Overlogix Sunday Times, Special Edition: Switzerland and USA Regional Editions. The new home for The Overlogix Sunday Times is now available. Subscribers are invited to bookmark this page as an ongoing landing page; new editions will be posted there immediately after publishing. These changes will keep the newsletters shorter.

LinkedIn Post: Why Large Language Models (LLM) Cannot Replace Human Beings 04.04.2025 Although we have repeatedly written, from our own experience, that LLMs (almost all of the currently available AIs, including ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Grok, Copilot, Perplexity, etc.) won’t replace human beings, we haven’t actually explained why. This post succinctly puts that matter to rest, and permanently.
LLMs are stochastic parrots. However glib and articulate they might seem, they lack the capabilities necessary to do what humans do, do not and cannot understand meaning, lack creativity, novelty, reasoning and agency, by design and implementation. TL;DR version: they won’t replace people, because they can’t.
Will they change the future employment landscape? Yes! But not as drop-in replacements.
The notion of human beings as fungible, replaceable “resources” always was false, albeit widely believed. The even more absurd idea that a computer program, regardless of how sophisticated, can reliably take the place of a creative, knowledgeable and dedicated human worker is risible beyond words. Decision makers holding such views are excellent candidates for equity stakeholder investigation and review; it’s the daft fever-dream of the career cost-cutter, not of a competent leader worthy of command.
Tech workers savvy with AI knowledge are now and will be in the future more valuable than those who shun AI or hold it in ignorant contempt. We have found it useful in many ways, but have avoided the hype halo characteristic of the “magnificent 7” AI companies. We’ll remind readers that there is plenty of truth to the notion that: AI won’t take your job, but someone who uses AI will.

Installation and configuration of Microsoft SQL Server in Linux This project, like the below Gemini migration, demonstrates a practical use for AGI candidates like Claude. We asked Claude to help us through this unfamiliar topic and documented the results. Since we need this for a client, the installation is rather urgent and so has been prioritized.
Migration project using Google Gemini to produce the implementation and configuration steps. We’ve been developing, for our own purposes, an internal wiki built on the same platform as Wikipedia, MediaWiki. The interesting part is that we’re using Google Gemini as our research concierge and assistant for this project. The wiki has outgrown the el-cheapo XAMPP Windows installation and must be migrated to our Linux server.

Microsoft SQL Server Client Software 01.04.2025 Regardless of whether MS SQL Server is installed on a Windows or Linux server, it must be accessed and administered from Windows, by design. This article describes the important Windows client programs necessary for development and management of MS SQL Server, what they do, how they are licensed, and where to download them. A must read for all who contemplate using SQL Server.
Databases: Introduction to Microsoft SQL Server 24.03.2025 This brief introduction to MS SQL Server serves two purposes: (1) it supplied decision makers with an overview of where MSSQL is and is not a good choice for a data storage system, and (2) it serves as an index for a series of specialized articles detailing installation, configuration, usage and maintenance of the database system. As new articles are written, they will be indexed and linked in this article. We expect at least one new article this week. As always, all of our articles are always indexed, by subject matter, at our Table of Context.

LinkedIn's Free Version for Small Businesses 10.3.2025 Small businesses planning on using LinkedIn for marketing should read this analysis. The free version of LinkedIn is still useful despite large-scale monetization by Microsoft; however, that utility is limited, and has been since June 2023. SMBs should know, as soon as possible, how far they can expect to go with the free edition, so they can plan their marketing wisely. This article explains, in detail, what can and cannot be expected using the free edition.
Windows Security 101 17.2.2025 Computer security is a multi-faceted, constant process. This article details three very important practices every Windows user should implement as soon as possible; Windows is still the largest malware target, and will be as long as Microsoft dominates the workstation OS space. Part of an ongoing series of articles on Windows security.
Windows Computer Security: Sources 11.02.2025 A curated and maintained collection of official and reputable third-party links covering many aspects of Windows security. We recommend reading it and bookmarking the article for all Windows users.

The LinkedIn algorithm doesn’t favor posts with external links. This silly rule is intended to discourage off-LinkedIn-site linking, but, of course, a newsletter has to include many off-site links. Practically speaking, this makes it very difficult to expand our readership, no matter how good the content is, nor how hard we work at it.
If you like this newsletter, and think friends and colleagues could benefit from reading it, please share it with them. We bring news and views found nowhere else, one of many alternative, disruptive fledgling news sources emerging today. Your help in getting the word out is invaluable, and much appreciated!
