Welcome to the Overlogix Substack
What we'll be doing here and why: Applied Artificial Intelligence
Overlogix is a service business specializing in automation, enterprise software development and database technology, specifically, Oracle. Recently, we have branched out into artificial intelligence, primarily because it is now a competitive necessity, but also because there is a real chance of using AI to boost our own productivity significantly, minimize the need to hire staff, reduce risk, and leverage our core skills in new ways previously impossible.
Needless to say, the effort has been an interesting challenge, as readers will see. Much more on this later.
We’re currently marketing on LinkedIn while searching for better alternatives. Much of that content will gradually be moved to this Substack as time allows.
Enter Substack. After doing research on which platforms would be best for our purposes, we came up with one good answer. You are reading it now.
The business purposes of this Substack are:
Provide Overlogix with a monetizable platform. Substack does this, and we will make use of it in the near future. All of our content intended for sale will go here, not on LinkedIn. Paid content will have to pass several tests, described here.
Provide us with a platform where we can speak our minds as we see fit. Substack appears to censor lightly, if at all. We will put content here that we believe won’t be well-received elsewhere, or will be actively censored, shadow-suppressed, shadow-banned or ignored.
Provide an algorithm-free means of communication, where we do not have to constantly worry about running afoul of some damned robot. Substack lacks, as of this writing, the kind of mindless, quibbling, micro-managing, content-checking and endless procession of unpublished rules.
Should other business purposes come to mind and survive testing, we’ll note them in forthcoming articles. For now, the above three are enough.
What can readers expect to find here?
Researched articles about artificial intelligence: what does it all mean, what it is good for, what it is not good for, how to use it, how to build your own AI, how to integrate it with the other elements of information technology, what pitfalls we find, how to monetize it. Most of the articles to be found here will be rather lengthy; we supply brief executive summaries at the beginning of some articles for the busy or impatient, and typically publish shorter summaries of these articles on LinkedIn.
Short TL;DR version: applied artificial intelligence. We’ll supply support, and proof where possible, for every claim we make!
How to use AI and off-the-shelf technology to automate business. Build your own robot, just as we are building our own robot.
Plenty of adventures in development and programming, using AI wherever possible.
The narrative of how we are building our small business, figuring out marketing, how to use available platforms, what to avoid, the basics of good A/B testing, measuring results without wasting time, monetization.
Plain old, curmudgeonly opinion, clearly labeled as such, for those brave souls who care about other people’s opinions.
The above points are quickly stated, but cover a large subject category of important, relevant, timely and very necessary information. We don’t like wasting time, and we promise not to waste the reader’s time. We’re fired up about it - it’s fun, interesting and very much a matter of current interest. We hope to make it profitable, and fully intend to do exactly that, live, in public.
Over time, we will gradually move much of our content creation here and away from LinkedIn. You, our readers, can help us along by subscribing. We’re in the process of defining our newsletters: The Overlogix Sunday Times, Applied Artificial Intelligence, Building Your Own AI, Integrating AI, Build Your Own Robot, Online Marketing a Tiny Business. There will, also be paid content in the form of detailed instructions for particular, high-value tasks, training information and materials, timely market data, and more. That being said, our intent is that the majority of this Substack will be free as in FOSS.
Thanks for reading this article. Leave comments if motivated to do so. Subscribe if you find this valuable. Stand by for announcements and more articles of interest.
The Overlogix Table of Context is our comprehensive index to our content, arranged by subject matter and topics. We added a list of Curated IT and AI Sources which will be periodically updated and is suitable as a bookmarked IT and AI reference.
